Amélie Chagnon of Poitiers, 17, had suffered since the age of twelve from tubercular caries of the left knee and ankle. Her leg had been immobilised in plaster for years; she could not walk. The Poitiers physicians had advised amputation, which the family refused.
She came to Lourdes on the pilgrimage of August 1891. Bathed in the piscines on August 21, she emerged with the joints reduced and mobile; the caries was gone, the leg fully functional. She walked from the baths to the Grotto and returned to Poitiers cured. The cure was recognised by the Bishop of Poitiers as the 15th miraculous Lourdes cure.
