As Christ passed by, His disciples asked the old question: 'Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?' Christ answered: 'It was not that this man sinned, or his parents, but that the works of God might be made manifest in him.' He spat on the ground, made clay of the spittle, anointed the eyes of the man, and said: 'Go, wash in the pool of Siloam.' The man went, washed, and came back seeing.
The whole of John 9 then unfolds — neighbours, Pharisees, parents, and the healed man himself questioned and re-questioned, the man growing in clarity until at last he confesses faith in the Christ who healed him and is cast out of the synagogue. Jesus found him: 'Lord, I believe' — and he worshipped Him. The Pool of Siloam itself — long thought lost — was rediscovered by archaeologists in 2004 at its first-century level beside the City of David.
