Jeanne Gestas of Bègles near Bordeaux had suffered for years from chronic enterocolitis with extensive pelvic adhesions following multiple operations and recurrent episodes of intestinal occlusion. She had been judged inoperable.
She came to Lourdes on the August 1947 pilgrimage. Bathed in the piscines on August 22 she was instantly cured — the abdominal pain ceased, intestinal function normalised, and she regained weight steadily. The cure was followed by the Lourdes Medical Bureau and was recognised by the Archbishop of Bordeaux as the 48th miraculous Lourdes cure.
