Jeanne Tulasne of Tours was 20 and had suffered since adolescence from Pott's disease (tubercular spondylitis of the thoracic spine) with marked kyphosis. She had spent years immobilised in a plaster body cast and could neither stand straight nor walk without support.
She came to Lourdes on the September 1897 pilgrimage. Bathed in the piscines on September 8 she emerged with the kyphosis reduced and her back fully mobile. The plaster shell was abandoned; she walked from the sanctuary upright for the first time in years. The cure was recognised by the Archbishop of Tours as the 23rd miraculous Lourdes cure.
