Johanna Bezenac, a French girl from the Bordeaux region, had suffered for years from a severe chronic ulcerative dermatitis with secondary infections and a recurrent ophthalmia. Conventional treatment had failed and her skin lesions had ulcerated extensively.
She came to Lourdes in August 1904. Bathed in the piscines she was instantly cured — the ulcers re-epithelialised, the ophthalmia cleared, and her skin returned to normal. The Lourdes Medical Bureau followed the case and the cure was recognised by the local ordinary as one of the cures from the August 1904 pilgrimage.
