Louise Jamain, 28, of Paris, was in the terminal phase of pulmonary tuberculosis with bilateral cavitation, intestinal tuberculosis with chronic diarrhoea, and tubercular peritonitis. She had been a patient of the Laennec hospital and was carried to Lourdes by the Paris pilgrimage of March 1937 on a stretcher, her physicians expecting her death at the sanctuary.
Bathed in the piscines on March 29 she was instantly cured: the cough and fever ceased, the diarrhoea stopped, and she regained weight steadily over the spring. The Lourdes Medical Bureau and the International Medical Committee studied her for over a decade; the cure was recognised by the Archbishop of Paris as the 41st miraculous Lourdes cure.
