Maddalena Carini — tubercular peritonitis
August 15, 1948 · Grotto of Massabielle, Lourdes, France
Status: approved holy see

Maddalena Carini of Milan was 30 in 1948 and had been ill for over a decade with tubercular peritonitis, bilateral pleurisy, and adrenal insufficiency that produced the brown pigmentation of an Addison's-like syndrome. She had received the Last Sacraments multiple times.

She came to Lourdes on the Italian UNITALSI pilgrimage of August 1948. Bathed in the piscines on August 15, the feast of the Assumption, she was instantly cured — the ascites resolved, the pleural disease cleared, the pigmentation faded, and she gained strength steadily over the following months. The Lourdes Medical Bureau followed her for over a decade and the cure was recognised by the Archbishop of Milan as the 51st miraculous Lourdes cure.
