The Lourdes Medical Bureau's official list of 70 episcopally-recognised cures includes several early-20th-century cases where the precise identification of the cured person varies between the Lourdes Medical Bureau's working archives, the diocesan recognition records, and the popular Catholic devotional literature of the period. The case recorded variously as Marie Lebranchu (second cure), Marie Lemerle, or Marguerite Fonsagrieve — a French laywoman of the Pas-de-Calais or Picardy region — involved a late tubercular complication of the pulmonary system in the first decade of the 20th century.
She had been a tubercular patient for years and had been judged terminal by her local physicians. She came to Lourdes on one of the national pilgrimages of the 1900–09 period. Bathed in the piscines she was instantly cured of the pulmonary tubercular complication that had reduced her to bedridden status. The cure was followed for years by the Lourdes Medical Bureau and was recognised by her diocesan ordinary as one of the cures of the official Lourdes list of the Pius X era.
