Marie Savoye, 24, of Cateau in the Nord, suffered from advanced rheumatic mitral valve disease (Bouillaud's disease) with severe mitral insufficiency, recurrent pulmonary oedema, peripheral oedema, and dyspnea at minimal exertion. She was bedridden and her physicians had judged her case terminal.
She came to Lourdes on the September 1901 pilgrimage. Bathed in the piscines on September 20 she was instantly cured: pulse and respirations normalised, the oedema cleared, and she returned to normal life. The cure was studied for many years by the Lourdes Medical Bureau and was recognised by the Archbishop of Cambrai as the 27th miraculous Lourdes cure.
