Sister Joséphine-Marie — chronic enteritis
August 1894 · Grotto of Massabielle, Lourdes, France
Status: approved holy see

Sister Joséphine-Marie, a French religious, had suffered for years from a severe chronic enteritis with intractable diarrhoea, malabsorption, and progressive cachexia. By the summer of 1894 she could no longer retain food and had been judged terminal by the attending physicians.

She made the pilgrimage to Lourdes in August 1894. Bathed in the piscines she was instantly restored — the diarrhoea stopped, normal nutrition resumed, and she regained weight steadily over the weeks that followed. The cure was followed for many years by the Lourdes Medical Bureau and was formally recognised as the 20th cure on the official Lourdes list.
