Sister Marie-Maxime — laryngeal-tracheal disease
May 1904 · Grotto of Massabielle, Lourdes, France
Status: approved holy see

Sister Marie-Maxime was a French religious sister who had suffered for years from severe laryngeal and tracheal ulceration with a chronic suffocating cough that had left her unable to speak above a whisper and had repeatedly required hospitalization. The Parisian and Lyonnais laryngologists who had examined her judged the condition irreversible.

She came to Lourdes on the May 1904 national pilgrimage. Bathed in the piscines she was instantly cured — the laryngeal lesions resolved, normal voice returned, the cough ceased. The cure was followed for years by the Lourdes Medical Bureau and was recognised by her diocesan ordinary as one of the early 20th-century cures on the official Lourdes list.
