Sister Maximilien — uterine fibroma
May 1900 · Grotto of Massabielle, Lourdes, France
Status: approved holy see

Sister Maximilien, a French religious of the Sisters of Sainte-Marie-de-la-Présentation, had a very large uterine fibroma — verified at multiple examinations as filling the lower abdomen — with severe associated menorrhagia and consequent anaemia. Surgical removal had been advised and refused.

She made the May 1900 pilgrimage. Bathed in the piscines she was instantly cured: the abdominal mass was no longer palpable, the bleeding stopped, and the anaemia resolved over the following weeks. The cure was investigated for years by the Lourdes Medical Bureau and was recognised as the 26th cure on the official Lourdes list.
