O Jesus, through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I offer You my prayers, works, joys, and sufferings of this day, in union with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass throughout the world, in reparation for my sins, for the intentions of all my relatives and friends, and in particular for the intentions of the Holy Father. Amen.
The Morning Offering
Offering the day's prayers, works, joys, and sufferings to the Heart of Jesus — the foundation of the Apostleship of Prayer.
On rising each morning.
The Apostleship of Prayer was founded in 1844 at the Jesuit seminary of Vals-près-le-Puy in France by Fr. François-Xavier Gautrelet. He encouraged the young Jesuits to begin each day with a brief offering of the whole day — prayers, works, joys, and sufferings — for the intentions of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
The practice spread rapidly through the Jesuits and the wider Catholic world, taking its now-classic form by the early 20th century. The Apostleship of Prayer (renamed the Pope's Worldwide Prayer Network in 2016) continues today, with the Holy Father publishing monthly intentions that are united with the Morning Offering of the faithful.
