Life

Angelo Paoli was born on September 1, 1642 at Argigliano in Tuscany. He entered the Carmelite Order in 1660 and was ordained priest in 1667.

In 1687, Angelo was assigned to the Carmelite Convent of San Martino ai Monti in Rome — where he undertook the vocation of the Roman poor-relief ministry for the 33 years (1687–1720).

Angelo became famous during his lifetime as the 'Father of the Poor' (Padre della Carità) of Rome — undertaking the systematic ministry: personally begging in the Roman streets to collect food and money for the poor, establishing the systematic Sunday distribution to the Roman poor at San Martino ai Monti, personally visiting the Ospedale di San Giovanni in Laterano for the sick.

He died at Rome on January 20, 1720 at the age of 77.
