Anna Maria (baptismal name Anna Maria Giannetti) was born on May 29, 1769 at Siena. In 1789, at the age of 20, Anna Maria married Domenico Taigi — a Roman servant at the Chigi Palace. The marriage produced seven children.
In 1790, Anna Maria underwent the mystical conversion — undertaking the Trinitarian Third Order (Tertiary) vows and the 47-year mystical-visionary life while simultaneously fulfilling her role as Roman housewife and mother.
Anna Maria became famous during her lifetime for the mystical-visionary phenomena — most famously the appearance of a mystical sun hovering before her — in which she reportedly could see images of the persons, events, and places throughout the world in real time and in the future. The Taigi 'mystical sun' became the 19th-century Catholic visionary-mystical tradition.
Anna Maria received multiple visits from Popes Pius VII and Leo XII seeking her spiritual counsel. She famously prophesied historical events including the Napoleonic capture of Rome (1809), the 1830 revolutions, and other European political events.
She died at Rome on June 9, 1837 at the age of 68.
