Life

Antonio Baldinucci was born on June 19, 1665 at Florence to the Baldinucci family (nephew of the famous art historian Filippo Baldinucci). In 1681 (at 16), Antonio entered the Society of Jesus at Rome.

Ordained priest in 1695, Antonio undertook the itinerant popular-mission ministry across the Papal States and southern Italy. For 22 years (1695–1717), Antonio conducted documented 448 popular missions across the Lazio, Umbria, Marche, and Campania regions.

Antonio's preaching pattern included: dramatic public penances, street processions with the crucifix, systematic catechesis of the rural peasantry, and Sacred Heart devotion.

He died at Pofi on November 7, 1717 at the age of 52 — worn out from his missionary labors.
