Life

James (Italian Giacomo) Salomoni was born in 1231 to the noble Venetian Salomoni family. At the age of 17 (1248), he entered the Dominican Order at Venice.

James served as Dominican prior at multiple Dominican convents across northern Italy — including Bergamo, Faenza, and Forlì — becoming famous during his lifetime for his ministry of preaching, spiritual direction, and personal charity.

During his final years at Forlì, James suffered from a painful cancer — endured with the patient Catholic suffering that established his patronage of cancer sufferers.

He died at Forlì on May 25, 1314, at the age of 83.
