Noël Pinot was born on December 19, 1747 at Angers. Ordained priest in 1771, Noël served as parish priest at the parish of Le Louroux-Béconnais in the Vendée region.
During the French Revolution, Noël refused the Constitutional Clergy Oath of 1790 — becoming a refractory-priest. Noël undertook the systematic underground Catholic ministry across the Vendée-Anjou region during the Vendée Wars (1793–1796) — in the continuing Catholic-royalist resistance to the revolutionary government.
Arrested in February 1794 while preparing to celebrate a secret Mass at Le Louroux, Noël was condemned to the guillotine at Angers.
On February 21, 1794, Noël was led to the guillotine at the Place du Ralliement at Angers — dressed in his full Mass vestments (the decision of the Revolutionary Tribunal to publicly shame the Catholic priesthood by executing him in the sacred vestments).
Noël pronounced the Preparatory Prayer of the Mass ('Introibo ad altare Dei') as he mounted the scaffold. Beatified October 31, 1926 by Pope Pius XI.
