Pauline-Marie Jaricot was born on July 22, 1799 at Lyon to the Jaricot silk-merchant family — the merchant class of Lyon during the Napoleonic and Restoration periods.
In 1817, at the age of 17, Pauline undertook the vow of perpetual virginity and the systematic Catholic charitable ministry.
In 1822, at the age of 22, Pauline founded the Society for the Propagation of the Faith at Lyon — the lay-based Catholic missionary-funding organization supporting the Catholic missions worldwide. The Society became the principal Catholic missionary-funding organization of the 19th and 20th centuries.
In 1826, Pauline founded the Living Rosary Association at Lyon — the lay Catholic association in which 15 members each recited one decade of the Rosary daily, producing the corporate Rosary devotion.
In 1862, Pauline died in personal poverty at Lyon at the age of 62 — after having provided massive charitable funding to the Catholic missions worldwide.
Beatified May 22, 2022 by Pope Francis.
