Life

Peter (Spanish Pedro) Regalado was born on May 1, 1390 at Valladolid to the noble Castilian Regalado family. At the age of 13 (1403), Peter entered the Franciscan Order at the Convent of San Francisco at Valladolid — the Franciscan Conventual establishment.

Around 1415, Peter transferred to the Convent of La Aguilera near Aranda de Duero — the Franciscan Observant convent that had been established by Bl. Peter of Villacreces (1350–1422, father of the Castilian Franciscan Observant Reform). Peter Regalado became one of Villacreces's principal disciples and institutional successor.

In 1442, Peter Regalado was appointed Vicar Provincial of the Franciscan Observance in Castile — the governance office of the Castilian Franciscan Observant Reform. His fourteen-year ministry (1442–1456) consolidated the Castilian Franciscan Observance under the systematic institutional discipline.

Peter Regalado became famous during his lifetime for his mystical-ecstatic experiences — including the famous documented bilocations (appearing simultaneously at multiple monastic locations distant from one another).

He died at Aguilar de Campos on March 30, 1456.

Miracles & Phenomena
  • The Castilian Franciscan Observant Reform

St. Peter Regalado's fourteen-year Vicar Provincial ministry of the Franciscan Observance in Castile (1442–1456) — consolidating the Castilian Franciscan Observant Reform under the systematic institutional discipline — institutionally established the Castilian Franciscan Observance that would produce the Spanish Franciscan reform tradition (the specifically Franciscan reform of St. Peter of Alcántara, 1499–1562, and the broader Spanish Catholic Reform of the 16th century).

  • The bilocations

Peter Regalado's documented bilocations — appearing simultaneously at multiple monastic locations distant from one another — became one of the principal medieval Catholic bilocation-mystical narratives, in institutional parallel with the contemporary Franciscan bilocations of St. Anthony of Padua and the Franciscan bilocation traditions.
