Life

Peter Vigne was born on August 20, 1670 at Privas in the Vivarais. Ordained priest in 1694, Peter entered the Vincentians (Congregation of the Mission, St. Vincent de Paul's congregation) in 1696.

In 1706, Peter left the Vincentians to undertake the vocation of parish-mission preaching across the Vivarais highlands.

In 1712, Peter founded the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament of Valence — dedicated to the Eucharistic adoration and the catechesis of rural children.

Peter famously established the Way of the Cross at Boucieu-le-Roi in 1713 — the foundation-shrine of the Vivarais Catholic pilgrim tradition.

He died at Rencurel on July 8, 1740 at the age of 69.
