Life

Giacomo (religious name Andrea) Bordino was born on August 12, 1922 at Castellinaldo d'Alba in Italy. During World War II, Andrea was deported to a Nazi forced-labor camp — the experience that would shape his vocation.

Following the war, Andrea entered the Cottolengan Brothers at the Little House of Divine Providence at Turin (founded by St. Joseph Cottolengo in 1828, the Turin Catholic institution dedicated to the care of the most severely disabled and ill).

For 32 years (1945–1977), Andrea served as Cottolengan Brother-caregiver at the Little House — personally caring for the Turin severely disabled and ill.

He died at Turin on August 25, 1977 at the age of 55. Beatified May 2, 2015 by Pope Francis.
