The Eucharistic Miracle of Alboraya / Almàssera
1348 · Alboraya, near Valencia, Spain
Status: approved holy see

During the Black Death of 1348, the parish priest of Alboraya near Valencia was carrying three consecrated hosts in a pyx to three dying parishioners in the neighbouring village of Almàssera. Crossing the swollen Carraixet river his mule fell; the pyx broke and the three hosts were carried away by the current.

The priest, in despair, prayed all night on the riverbank. At dawn three fishes appeared in the shallows, each holding a host in its mouth — the priest gathered them. The relics were preserved; the diocese of Valencia approved the cult. The annual procession remains.
