At Benningen in Bavarian Swabia in 1216, a priest carrying the Blessed Sacrament to the sick was conscious of grave sin and unwilling to make confession. Approaching a small bridge, the consecrated host escaped from the corporal cloth and remained suspended in the air above the road. The priest, terrified, confessed his sin and was absolved by another priest summoned from the village. Only then would the host return to be carried. The site was marked by a chapel that still stands.
