Eucharistic — The Eucharistic Miracle of Dijon

The Eucharistic Miracle of Dijon
1430 · Sainte-Chapelle of Dijon (later destroyed), France
Status: approved holy see

Three consecrated hosts, captured from a Hussite mercenary band that had attempted to desecrate them in Bohemia, were sent to Duke Philip the Good of Burgundy in 1430 as a gift. When the duke's chaplains examined them, the three hosts were found to be marked with drops of red blood and to bleed afresh when touched.

Duke Philip ordered the construction of a new Sainte-Chapelle in Dijon to house the relics, modelled on the Sainte-Chapelle of Paris. Pope Eugene IV confirmed the cult. The Sainte-Chapelle of Dijon was destroyed in 1802 during the post-Revolutionary period; the hosts were lost. The cult is preserved in liturgical memory.
