At the Church of St. Amé in Douai (in northern France, then part of Flanders) at Easter 1254, a consecrated host was accidentally dropped at the Communion rail. As the celebrant knelt to recover it, the host transformed before the eyes of the assembled congregation into the face of the Christ Child. The witnesses' depositions were taken; the bishop of Arras approved the public cult. The relic was preserved at St. Amé until the destruction of the church in the French Revolution.
