Eucharistic — The Eucharistic Miracle of Erding

The Eucharistic Miracle of Erding
1417 · Wallfahrtskirche Heilig Blut, Erding, Germany
Status: approved holy see

In 1417 a peasant of Erding in Upper Bavaria stole a consecrated host from his parish church, intending to use it for sorcery to recover lost property. He hid the host in his glove. When he removed it later, the host had become bleeding flesh. Overcome with remorse, he confessed to the parish priest, who recovered the relic.

The bleeding host was preserved at the chapel of the Heilig Blut ('Holy Blood') at Erding, which became one of the great pilgrimage sites of Bavaria. The Wallfahrtskirche Heilig Blut still stands and the annual pilgrimage on the feast of Corpus Christi continues.
