On the night of August 24, 1595, a candle left burning beside the tabernacle of the Church of Sant'Ambrogio in Florence ignited a fire that consumed the wooden tabernacle and the cabinetry around it. When the friars sifted through the ashes the next morning, they found six consecrated hosts entirely intact at the centre of the burned-out space — unscorched, unbroken, fragrant. The miracle, occurring at the very church already famed for the 1230 Eucharistic miracle, was confirmed by the archbishop. The relics were preserved alongside the earlier 13th-century relic.
