Eucharistic — The Eucharistic Miracle of La Rochelle

The Eucharistic Miracle of La Rochelle
1461 · La Rochelle (Atlantic coast), France
Status: approved holy see

In 1461 at the Atlantic port of La Rochelle, a young thief stole a chalice from the parish church and brought it home to scrape off the gold. As he raised his knife to the cup, the chalice burst into a sudden bright flame, and the consecrated host within (which the thief had not realised was present) became visibly bleeding flesh. The boy ran terrified to the parish priest and confessed. The relic was preserved; the local cult was approved by the bishop of Saintes.
