In 1374, during a Corpus Christi procession through Liège (the city whose former Augustinian canoness St. Juliana of Cornillon, d. 1258, had first proposed the universal feast of Corpus Christi to Pope Urban IV), the consecrated host carried in the great processional monstrance was seen to emit visible rays of light as the procession crossed the bridge over the Meuse river. The procession was halted; many of the participants fell to their knees. Bishop Jean d'Arckel of Liège took depositions and confirmed the local cult.
