Eucharistic — The Eucharistic Miracle of Meerssen

The Eucharistic Miracle of Meerssen
1222 / 1465 · Basilica of the Most Holy Sacrament, Meerssen, Netherlands
Status: approved holy see

At Meerssen in Dutch Limburg, two distinct Eucharistic phenomena occurred at the same parish church. In 1222 the celebrant at Mass saw the consecrated host visibly bleed onto the corporal at the fraction. In 1465 a great fire destroyed the church and most of its contents — but when the ashes were cleared the tabernacle was found intact and the host within unharmed.

The two relics — the bloodied corporal and the host preserved from the fire — are venerated together at the Basilica of the Most Holy Sacrament at Meerssen. The annual Sacramentsoctaaf procession remains.
