Eucharistic — The Eucharistic Miracle of Munich

The Eucharistic Miracle of Munich
1356 · Liebfrauenkirche / Frauenkirche area, Munich, Germany
Status: approved holy see

In 1356 thieves broke into the principal parish church of Munich (then a modest Bavarian market town) and stole the ciborium with its consecrated hosts. Realising the hosts could not be sold, they buried them in the Föhring forest outside the city walls. The next morning peasants drawn by an unexplained light from the forest found the hosts intact, pulsing with visible radiance. The bishop of Freising authenticated the cult; the relics were returned in procession.
