In 1824 in the Alicante town of Onil, a consecrated host accidentally swallowed by a parishioner and later recovered was examined and found to bear, in clear sepia tones, the distinct image of the face of Christ crowned with thorns. The relic was preserved at the parish church and the local cult approved.
