Marian Apparitions — Our Lady of Mercy of Pellevoisin

Our Lady of Mercy of Pellevoisin
1876 · Pellevoisin, Indre, France
Status: nihil obstat

Estelle Faguette, thirty-two, a servant of the Rochefoucauld family, lay dying at Pellevoisin in February 1876 and wrote a letter to Our Lady asking to be healed for her parents' sake. From 14 February the Virgin appeared at the foot of her bed on five successive nights, and on the fifth told her she would be cured; the next morning she rose from a bed that the doctors had said she would not leave. Ten further apparitions followed through 8 December, in which Our Lady called herself 'all-merciful', showed Estelle a white scapular bearing the Sacred Heart, and asked that it be spread; Estelle lived until 1929, spreading it.

In 1983 the Archbishop of Bourges recognised her cure as miraculous. On 22 August 2024 the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith gave its consent to the nihil obstat proposed by the Archbishop for the devotion to Our Lady of Mercy at Pellevoisin — among the first decisions under the norms of May 2024. Under those norms a nihil obstat is the most positive finding available: nothing stands in the way of the devotion, which may be promoted; it is not a declaration that the apparitions themselves were supernatural, which now only the Pope may make.
