In 1399 three consecrated hosts stolen from a Poznań parish church were abandoned by the thieves in a meadow outside the city. Shepherds found them visibly weeping blood. The Bishop of Poznań investigated; the relics were authenticated. King Władysław II Jagiełło — recently converted from his native Lithuanian paganism — ordered the construction of the great Corpus Christi (Boże Ciało) Church on the site, which the Carmelite Friars served. The relics were preserved there for centuries.
