In 1521 a thief stole a consecrated host from a parish church in the Saint-Sever district of Rouen, on the left bank of the Seine. Three days later fishermen on the river saw a strange light on the surface of the water; rowing closer, they found the host floating, untouched by the current, surrounded by a visible glow. The host was returned in procession to the parish; the Archbishop of Rouen confirmed the local cult.
