On September 25, 1969, in the small village of San Mauro La Bruca in the Cilento region of southern Italy, a consecrated host was found on the ground near the entrance of the parish church — likely dropped accidentally. When the parish priest came to recover it, the host was visibly bleeding. The bishop of Vallo della Lucania opened the canonical inquiry; the relic was preserved and the local cult approved.
