Eucharistic — The Eucharistic Miracle of Folloni di Montella

The Eucharistic Miracle of Folloni di Montella
1224 · Convent of San Francesco a Folloni, Montella, Italy
Status: approved holy see

In 1224, St. Francis of Assisi was visiting his small foundation at Folloni near Montella in the Irpinia mountains of southern Italy. A fierce winter snowstorm trapped the friars inside the convent for days without food. As Francis led the friars in prayer, an angel — by their later sworn account — knocked at the convent door and delivered a basket of fresh loaves of bread.

One of the loaves was preserved in a wooden coffer as a memorial of the divine providence. Almost 600 years later, in 1817, the coffer was opened during the canonical examination — and the loaf was found intact, fragrant, and showing no decay. The bread is preserved to this day at the convent of San Francesco a Folloni at Montella, listed in St. Carlo Acutis's catalogue among the great Franciscan-era Eucharistic-related miracles.
