Information we collect

Only what you send us. The site has no user accounts and does not collect names, email addresses, or other personal details as you use it. The search boxes on the site (site search, Bible search, map search) run entirely in your browser against data already downloaded to your device; your queries are never sent to us or to anyone else.

The contact form at /contact is the one place you can give us information, and it is used only to answer you. When you send it, your name, your email address, and your message are sent to our mailbox as an ordinary email, and to nowhere else. We do not store the message on the server, add you to any list, or share what you wrote with anyone; we keep the email for as long as the correspondence needs it. To limit abuse, the form keeps a short-lived record of how many messages have come from a connection in the last hour, held as a one-way hash of the address rather than the address itself and discarded after an hour. If you would rather not use the form, the same address is given on the contact page and you can write to it from your own mailbox.

Information stored on your device

The site stores one preference in your browser's local storage: your chosen color theme (dark or light). This value never leaves your device, is not a tracking cookie, and is used only to remember your choice between visits. You can clear it at any time through your browser's site-data settings.

Server logs

Our hosting provider may automatically record standard, transient server logs — such as IP addresses, request times, and browser type — for security and operational purposes, as virtually all web hosts do. We do not use these logs to identify or profile visitors.

Third-party services

Two third parties are involved in delivering the site:

• ·Hosting. The site is served by a commercial hosting provider, which processes requests (including your IP address) in order to deliver pages to you.
• ·Map tiles. The interactive maps load their background tiles from OpenFreeMap (tiles.openfreemap.org). When a map is on screen, your browser requests tiles directly from that service, which necessarily sees your IP address, as with any resource your browser fetches.

These providers operate under their own privacy practices, which we do not control. No other third-party scripts, fonts, trackers, or embeds load at runtime — fonts are self-hosted, and there are no advertising or analytics services on the site.

The site links out to external websites (shrines, dioceses, reference works). Those sites have their own privacy policies; this policy stops at our door.

Analytics and cookies

The site currently uses no analytics and sets no cookies. If that ever changes, we will update this policy first and note the change here before any such service goes live.

Children

The site is a general-audience reference. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone — adult or child — because we do not collect personal information at all.

Visitors outside the United States

The site is operated from the United States and is not specifically directed at visitors in the European Union or United Kingdom. The only personal data we hold is what you have sent us through the contact form or by email, and you can ask us to correct or delete it at any time at the address below.

Changes to this policy

Material changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date.
