After the Resurrection, Peter, Thomas, Nathanael, James, John, and two other disciples were fishing on the Sea of Tiberias. They had toiled all night and caught nothing. As day broke, a figure stood on the shore — they did not recognise Him. 'Children, have you any fish?' 'No.' 'Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some.' They did; they could not haul it in for the multitude. John said to Peter: 'It is the Lord!'
Peter put on his clothes (he had stripped to work) and threw himself into the sea, swimming the hundred yards to shore. The others came in the boat dragging the net. On the beach was a charcoal fire with fish already laid on it, and bread. Christ said: 'Come and have breakfast.' Peter pulled the net to land, full of large fish — 153 of them; the net was not torn. After breakfast Christ asked Peter the threefold question — 'Do you love me?' — that retraced and undid the threefold denial of the Passion night. The Primacy of Peter Chapel at Tabgha marks the traditional site of the breakfast and the commission.
